Next semester, I will be student teaching at Westwood Elementary School in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. For my two week unit plan, I will be teaching my students about the research process. The topics that will be included in this unit plan are the beginning stages to research, synthesizing articles to find the main idea, writing a short paper to describe their research, and giving a presentation about the research they conducted. Also, students will have the opportunity to learn abotu a bibliography.
Although this seems like a lot of topics, it really willbe a good start to introducing the students to the research process. Normally research is a difficult topic for students to grasp, but I feel like this can be extremely helpful to students in the long run.
The standards that willbe addressed in this unit includes 6th grade writing, reading, and speaking. Within one unit, students will have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of topics.

Do you know what you want the students to research? I think it would be good if you came up with a specific theme for the students to research. For example, students could research modern authors or a popular figure that is their "hero."
