After reviewing some blogs, I have come up with a few characteristics of a good blog, as well as some things one should avoid when participating in a blog. Obviously, a blog is a place where an internet user can come to express some opinions on various topics. I am a person, who is new to the idea of blogging, but I am open to exploring other blogs to gain some insights about current issues around the world. With that being said, here is what I see as some important characteristics of a good blog.
A good blog needs to be short, eye-catching, and interesting to the viewer. One needs to visit the blog and after 5 seconds of viewing, they should want to continue reading. How is this possible? Well, this can be made possible with the use of color, catch phrases, interesting topics, and brief, but relevant information. I would say it is definitely okay to use some humor in your blogs; readers are particularly interested in funny readings that makes sense, rather than some reading that is humorous, but does not make much sense. I really like this blog as an example of a great blog. It definitelty is something that educators can connect too because it is so relateable.
It is easy to think that a blog is good if it includes everything that is listed above, but there is a fine line between a good blog and a weak blog. I am not going to provide an example of a bad blog on this blog because I feel like it is unprofessional to criticize others work on the internet, but here are some characteristics of bad blogs. These include a blog that is pointless, has a misleading title, rambles on about unnecessary topics, and has long URLs. Try to avoid this when creating your blogs because people are normally turned off by these things.
There you have it, my first post of my blog for EDUC 358. Hopefully, I did not contradict myself with my blog and included things on my blog that would allow someone to characterize my blog as a bad one. That surely would be embrassing....
